A well-defined mission statement clarifies the purpose of your project, ensuring it resonates with both you and your audience. By understanding why you're making music and communicating that clearly to your audience, you can ensure your project stays true to itself while making a lasting impact.


To get started, ask yourself a few questions;


What emotions or messages would I like my music to elicit in listeners?

  • Consider which reactions your target audience experiences from hearing your song. Does it intend to inspire, comfort, empower or challenge?


What sets apart my music in its genre and era?

  • Determine what distinguishes it from others within it. Perhaps your sound, lyrics or themes make you stand out? Get specific!


Who Are My Listeners (TARGET AUDIENCE)

  • Think carefully about who would make up the ideal listeners of your music . Defining their interests, values and lifestyle are essential components to connecting with them.


What are your long-term musical career goals?

  • Think carefully about what your future in music to look like. Are your aspirations primarily regarding making money, or do you prefer spreading a particular message and it impact in the world.


Why did you begin creating music in the first place?

  • Take some time to understand what drives your musical creation. What are your passions and how can you explore them sonically?


Your mission statement should reflect your core values, goals, and the emotions you aim to evoke through your work. By defining your vision clearly, you'll build a stronger connection with your audience and ensure that every creative decision aligns with your overarching purpose.
